Designed to eliminate the excessive pressure caused by the habit of teeth grinding and clenching, commonly referred to as bruxism, bth4 was developed after years of research.  Multiple prototypes were created and tested (patent pending).​ ​​

​The design is a combination of a mouth guard and an effective (and very simple) biofeedback device. The biofeedback will provide the necessary warning sign to prevent grinding, effectively stopping the undesirable jaw forces and creating behaviors to eliminate the habit. The feedback will become active once the bruxism event starts and the level of discomfort will be proportional to the force applied by the jaw. The device works without the need of complex electronics and/or batteries reducing complexity, size, risk, fitting time, and cost.
bth4 effectively eliminates sleep bruxism events and may reduce bruxism events during waking hours thanks to the principle of operation. The subconscious learns from the undesirable biofeedback and communicates it during bruxism events while awake, preventing the pressure application even when the device is not being used.

Multiple benefits could be obtained when using bth4 to treat bruxism/clenching, including:
  • Reduction / elimination of headaches, ear pain, migraines, neck pain associated with bruxism.
  • Gum recession linked to bruxism reduction (gums are unlikely to regenerate but based on the results of periodontal treatment patients the benefits of using the device allowed them to recover faster in 5 months without clenching/grinding than 2 years of periodontal treatment).
  • Using the device alerts you of the undesirable action while sleeping, helping to eliminate the habit while awake, making it very beneficial for awake bruxism patients.

We have been getting great results in severe cases of bruxism. The overall success rate is around 85% (approximately 4.5 stars). For moderate cases of bruxism, where pain is not as large a factor, bth4 benefits might not be as noticeable.

Even though bth4 was created to “break the habit” and we have received feedback confirming it, some people continue to use the mouth guard after several months. It is difficult to determine if the habit has been permanently eliminated and not coming back as bruxism is a very complex condition.

It is important to mention that multiple factors can influence your sleep (and pain), such as bruxism, occlusion, and respiratory issues (such as sleep apnea). It is recommended that a dental and sleep study be performed prior using bth4.
